Have you ever found yourself wandering aimlessly in an unfamiliar part of the city having to ask people for directions? It happens more often than we would like that we find ourselves taking a wrong turn, and taking twice as long to find our way back. We present you this nice tool, basically a wireless projector, that will be very handy in the future world.

Map wireless projector is little and nice looking device

It’s called Maptor, and it’s a design concept from Jin-Sun Park and Seon-keun Park. Basically, you wear this wireless projector on a lanyard or maybe even as a keychain or beltclip, and when you need to see your map, you press a button, and  your map is projected onto whatever nearby surface is handy.

Another great feature is that Maptor has a GPS included, so when you look at the map there will be a big red arrow on the map that points to your current location. Using the easy, push-button interface, one can easily enlarge or shrink the overall map size as well as zoom in and out as needed. Maps can be downloaded wirelessly via a Bluetooth connection.

We could project map on wall

Since it’s a concept only, it’s not available commercially, but it will sure enough wait us in the future…

Creativity and imagination of people who invent such things are incredible. Something that is so complex as a computer could, in fact, be packed in 5 pens. How is it possible? Just look at images below.

It seems that these are pictures of several pens in the pencil holder. No way to conclude that you are actually looking at the computer.

Just some fancy pencils?

When you look a little closer, it is possible to see that these are not a normal pens. Here, we have some cameras, headset and some fancy looking details.

These pens actually have some interesting details

You need very little time to transform all of these pencils. They now look like they have some other purpose.

Pencils after some transformations

Now we have a keyboard, monitor, and all that is necessary to use our super-modern computer.

Lights, Camera…. Action!

In everyday life we use our five senses to get information about an object. By combining those information  we can take further actions or not (if we just wanted to familiarize ourselves with that object). But sometimes, we feel that something is missing, that there is something more. Now, we have a SixthSense that can help us and provide additional information. It can also help us in many other ways which we will see later.

SixthSense is developed at MIT by Pranav Mistry. The SixthSense prototype is comprised of a pocket projector, a mirror and a camera. Both the projector and the camera are connected to the mobile computing device in the user’s pocket. The projector projects visual information enabling surfaces, walls and physical objects around us to be used as interfaces; while the camera recognizes and tracks user’s hand gestures and physical objects using computer-vision based techniques. The software program processes the video stream data captured by the camera and tracks the locations of the colored markers (visual tracking fiducials) at the tip of the user’s fingers using simple computer-vision techniques. The current prototype system costs approximate $350 to build.

Sixth Sense

SixthSense can provide us additional information about an object but it can also help us to perform everyday actions in much more comfortable way. For example, you can dial a phone number on your palm.

Sixth Sense - dial a phone number on your palm

We have seen a lot of futuristic movies where people read newspapers  that contain a video beside text. By using SixthSense that no longer is a fiction.

Sixth Sense - newspapers with live video news

There are many other examples, and therefore it would be best to view the clip.

Source: SixthSense

The SixthSense prototype is comprised of a pocket projector, a mirror and a camera. The hardware components are coupled in a pendant like mobile wearable device. The movements and arrangements of these fiducials are interpreted into gestures that act as interaction instructions for the projected application interfaces. The maximum number of tracked fingers is only constrained by the number of unique fiducials, thus SixthSense also supports multi-touch and multi-user interaction.
